Astrocartography lines: ten planets, four angles
With the ten bodies from the Sun to Pluto, an astrocartography map is made of 40 lines. Each one connects the places where a particular planet stood on one of the four angles at the moment of your birth. In astrology, the Sun and the Moon count among the planets, even though astronomically they are a star and a moon.
Here you will find all ten planets with their four lines. Each planet page explains what the planet stands for on the map, which areas of life it touches, and whether its lines count as supportive, mixed, or demanding. You can see your own lines on the free map.
Before the planets, it helps to know the four angles. They decide which area of life a planet speaks to. The ascendant and descendant lie on the horizon, the MC and IC on the meridian, the north-south line across the sky. Every planet has its own line on each angle.
- Midheaven (MC) where a planet culminates: career and reputation
- The Midheaven, or Medium Coeli, is the highest point a planet reaches on its daily path across the sky. It stands for career, reputation, and what others know you for. On the map, MC lines follow a meridian from pole to pole.
- Imum Coeli (IC) where a planet is at its lowest: home and roots
- The Imum Coeli lies exactly opposite the MC, below the horizon on the far side of the Earth. It stands for home, family, roots, and your private life. IC lines also follow a meridian from pole to pole, exactly 180 degrees from the MC line of the same planet.
- Ascendant (AC) where a planet rises: how you come across
- The ascendant is the point where a planet rises above the eastern horizon. In astrocartography it stands for you: how you come across, how you feel in your own skin, and how you show up in a place. Ascendant lines are considered the most personal.
- Descendant (DC) where a planet sets: your relationships
- The descendant lies opposite the ascendant, in the west, where a planet sinks below the horizon. It stands for the people across from you: partners, close friends, and the people you work with. Descendant lines show what tends to reach you through others in a place.
