Gate

Gate 14: The Gate of Skillfully Handling Power

Gate 14 stands for strength and skill in handling abundance and possessions. In this view, its power reaches furthest when it flows into causes that matter to you and also do others good. Strategy and Authority help you put that power to use with purpose. The gate brings the theme of resources and possessions, whether you are building wealth of your own or managing someone else's, along with the aspiration to carry projects through to a good finish. It gets hard when you steer your power into things you don't love: then it wears itself out instead of creating something. Sharing is part of abundance. Together with its harmonic gate, Gate 2, this gate forms a team of direction and drive: Gate 2 knows where to go, and Gate 14 holds the ignition key.

The six lines of Gate 14

Line 1: Money Isn't Everything

This line stands for the insight that wealth brings problems of its own. In its exalted expression, higher principles rein in the desire for money and are the key to letting power take real effect. In its weakened expression, the assumption is that money solves problems, yet energy alone does not decide the outcome.

Line 2: Leadership

This line is about recognizing that expertise you invest in can pay off. In its exalted expression, there is room for growth when you hand off responsibility instead of carrying everything yourself. In its weakened expression, vanity leads you to see yourself as the best expert, and you insist on doing everything yourself.

Line 3: Service

This line is about dedicating your talent and wealth to a higher value instead of using them only for your own advantage. In its exalted expression, your strength unfolds through a selfless contribution to society. In its weakened expression, self-interest can fuel greed and erode your inner stance. Behind this lies the idea that wealth finds its meaning in being passed on.

Line 4: Security

Here the focus is on building a foundation that can bear weight. In its exalted expression, protection from attack can grow when the skills it calls for are developed. In its weakened expression, overconfidence in competition can undermine your own security, especially when those skills are missing. Here, security is tied to skill you have acquired rather than to what you own.

Line 5: Arrogance

This line is about positions of power and the risks that come with them. In its exalted expression, a natural dignity opens the way to your own strength. In its weakened expression, it is easy to slip into the illusion of standing above others, and the gifts of others are easily undervalued. The point here is the temptation that grows along with influence and position.

Line 6: Humility

This line shows wealth and power in their most sublime form. In its exalted expression, material success, read spiritually, is seen as divine will; spirituality can help in accepting it and becomes a source of strength. In its weakened expression, too, the meaning is positive: a sober outlook that sees success as inevitable and draws humility from this good fortune.

Incarnation Crosses with the Sun in Gate 14

Right Angle Cross of Contagion

This cross has one main theme: the burning out of commitments. In this view, someone binds themselves blindly to an experience, a person or a career path until the bond fades and they have to leave behind what once carried them, often with the sense of having failed or wasted their energy. This describes the theme of the cross rather than the course of your relationships. Physical exhaustion is not what is meant here; the theme is emphasized in the 1/4 and 2/4 Profiles. People on this cross also bring others together and gather their energy so that something moves in one direction. As a Right Angle, this is not actively sought: opportunities tend to come to a person while they take care of their own material needs.

For you, with the Sun in Gate 14, the theme is finding the right direction. Life is, in a sense, waiting for moments when you commit yourself to that direction, and the teaching links the right direction with the right power and also with success. What matters is entering into things in a way that feels true to you. Gate 14 is like an inheritance: a great deal of energy and many material possibilities that drive a direction forward. Quite a few people want a share of it, asking for commitments and promises, and whatever you give is simply taken. A reliable material foundation is considered the condition for this strong energy to stay stable; without it, Gate 14 is more likely to throw you off balance.

The angle is personal: encounters enrich your own path but do not fundamentally pull you away from it. You grow into this theme when you follow your Strategy and Authority. It is not a prediction.

Juxtaposition Cross of Empowering

The Juxtaposition Cross of Empowering is rare, and it is a fixed path of its own. Commitment falls away here, and with it desire and expectation. In their place, a need for intimacy and romance arises.

For you, with the Sun in Gate 14, the material power of this gate can serve to find companionship and closeness, much like a suitor from ancient times. On this cross, how you feel about life is closely tied to money and security. When resources are lacking, your mood can drop sharply.

This angle sits between the personal and the transpersonal and forms a bridge between them. It is like a train on fixed rails, and those who stay with you over time can ride along on your track. You grow into this theme when you follow your Strategy and Authority. It is not a prediction of events.

Left Angle Cross of Uncertainty

On this Left Angle Cross, the theme of uncertainty stands out more clearly than with the Sun in Gate 8, where the focus is on the uncertainty of one’s own contribution. For you, with the Sun in Gate 14, the cross makes use of the uncertainty that is present everywhere and offers its resources to others as security, for example in the form of a home, provision or work.

On this cross, closeness is typically sought by offering security. For a long time, marriage was tied to material security, and many conflicts in relationships revolve around material things. When the resources themselves are missing, the theme turns inward, and the question of whether you will ever find the relationship you need becomes your own uncertainty.

Therein lies its role in the bigger picture: this cross offers others support and direction and invites them not to face the struggle alone.

The angle is transpersonal: your theme matures through contact with others, and they can noticeably change your path. You can grow into it by following your Strategy and Authority. It is not fate.
