Gate 15: The Gate of Extremes

Gate 15 stands for a life of extremes: sometimes a lot and sometimes a little, sometimes long sleep and sometimes short, sometimes eating early and sometimes late. Here this counts as fitting rather than as a shortcoming, and it can make you adaptable. As one of the love gates, it directs its love toward humanity. The gate stands for a magnetic effect on others; it is associated with people from very different walks of life coming together around you. In everyday life, this shows up as modesty, fairness and a nonjudgmental attitude that lets people be who they are. You need a lot of freedom and feel uncomfortable where others exert control. Bitter experiences can weaken your love for people; at the same time, the gate stands for keeping your faith in the good and opening up again. Its harmonic gate, Gate 5, holds on to fixed patterns; between two people, this can lead to tension.

The six lines of Gate 15

Line 1: Duty

This line is about taking on tasks without expectations. In its exalted expression, harmonious relationships, even extreme ones, give you the backing to handle your tasks. In its weakened expression, excessive demands and extremes create distance from others. The line asks whether extremes connect or divide. What it points to is the support that closeness can offer, even in extremes.

Line 2: Influence

This line is about the influence that grows out of your own extreme nature: it can arise naturally from modesty and fitting action, or it can be used deliberately. In its exalted expression, modesty and fitting action can set standards when you accept your own nature as right for you. In its weakened expression, that nature is put to use on purpose, which makes it come across as forced, though it can be similarly powerful.

Line 3: Inflated Ego

Here modesty can undo itself as soon as it earns recognition. In its exalted expression, recognition confirms a modesty that is actually just an act, and that modesty remains a workable strategy through which your own extremes steer the course. In its weakened expression, others get their extremes pointed out to them with a know-it-all attitude. Here recognition puts modesty to the test.

Line 4: The Wallflower

Here, modesty serves as a shield that keeps shortcomings out of sight. In its exalted expression, the modesty is genuine, whether or not it hides weaknesses, and the self notices when it falls out of the flow. In its weakened expression, extremes keep the self off course, and modesty works only as thin cover that in the end no longer hides anything.

Line 5: Sensitivity

This line stands for a sense of when otherwise balanced behavior needs to be tuned to a new environment. In its exalted expression, living through the extremes holds the power to grow. In its weakened expression, the urge to overcompensate throws the flow into disarray. This is about fine-tuning between extremes that can't be fixed in place for good.

Line 6: Self-Defense

This line shows a modesty with no weakness behind it. In its exalted expression, the extremes are explored again and again until the weakest point is found and cleared away. In its weakened expression, harmony is used as a tool in conflicts, and the weakest point, along with the real causes, goes unaddressed.

Incarnation Crosses with the Sun in Gate 15

Right Angle Cross of the Vessel of Love

The arms of this Right Angle Cross carry four kinds of love: love of self, love of humanity, universal love and love of the body. Its image is a vessel, and for the people who carry it, love is the biggest question in life. This does not mean sexual love; love is the only counterbalance to the hard path of the Sphinx.

For you, with the Sun in Gate 15, the cross revolves around love of humanity and the extremes in rhythm. Part of this is letting a wide range of rhythms count as part of a larger flow. Your interest is directed toward the future: the question is how a great many things can be put in better order so that more love can be shared. Love of humanity can also tip over into an aversion to people, yet the direction stays the same, which is care for others, whether you feel like caring or not.

Because this is a Right Angle Cross, this love is not directed at yourself. The personal theme is to look after humanity and its order and to bring everyone into a harmonious flow.

The angle is personal: encounters enrich your own path, but they don't fundamentally pull you away from it. You grow into this theme when you follow your Strategy and Authority. It is not a prediction.

Juxtaposition Cross of Extremes

The Juxtaposition Cross of Extremes is rare, and it is a fixed path of its own. The Right Angle Cross wants to bring everyone into the flow, yet this cross cannot find its own way in. In place of the other gates of love, what lies underneath is discontent and a wish for correction.

For you, with your Sun in Gate 15, the cross shows up as very fixed rhythms that lie somewhere along the whole spectrum and may strike others as strange. People on this cross become a way of exploring everything that is possible in human rhythms, right down to the way they put their strength to use.

This angle sits between the personal and the transpersonal and builds a bridge between them. It is like a train on fixed rails, and those who travel with you for a longer stretch can ride along on your track. You grow into this theme as you follow your Strategy and Authority. It is not a prediction of events.

Left Angle Cross of Prevention

This Left Angle Cross runs into what doesn't work and notices the imperfection all around. It understands this as a gift: warning others about mistakes that keep repeating.

For you, with your Sun in Gate 15, love for humanity sits behind this. Out of love, this cross wants to keep others away from things that could harm them, and its typical gesture is a warning before someone gets into trouble. It often steps into intimate matters, especially relationships, for example, by advising someone not to live with a particular person. With your Design Sun in Gate 17, many opinions come into play that aren't necessarily backed up. This can feel confining, yet it comes from care.

This angle is transpersonal: your theme matures through contact with others, and they can noticeably change your path. You can grow into it by following your Strategy and Authority. It is not a fate.
