Gate 28: The Gate of the Player
Is this fight worth it? Gate 28 stands for the search for meaning. It is about the question of whether a fight is worth it, and about finding a path of your own that makes life worth living. This gate is linked to taking risks. Taking a chance helps you feel alive and savor life to the full. You carry the risks and their consequences alone; once you see a path as right, you keep walking it even against headwinds and without allies. When you commit yourself to something meaningful, you can experience aliveness, courage and wholehearted devotion. It becomes difficult in either direction: as recklessness on one side, or on the other as a paralyzing fear that avoids every risk and, with it, your aliveness. The intuition of this gate matures through trial and error.
The six lines of Gate 28
Line 1: Preparation
This line is about preparation and an intuitive eye for detail. In its exalted expression, the wish to be effective channels your energy into careful work on the specifics. In its weakened expression, you stop at the enjoyment of planning without carrying out what you planned. This shows how planning can either prepare the way for real impact or take its place.
Line 2: A Handshake with the Devil
This line describes an alliance you find deeply distasteful. In its exalted expression, once the game turns serious, you instinctively form an alliance that helps bring about victory, because here the end justifies even unpleasant means. In its weakened expression, giving up higher principles is unsettling, because victory is not certain.
Line 3: Adventurism
This line stands for risk without a reason. In its exalted expression, an intuition that is cautious by nature stays prudent even in the middle of a venture. In its weakened expression, the intuition glosses over the risk in the heat of the struggle. What matters is whether prudence comes along or whether sugarcoating takes the lead.
Line 4: Holding On
This line is about holding on with everything you have. In its exalted expression, intuition comes alive in the very midst of struggle and puts knowledge to work to seize opportunities, which usually serve a larger whole as well. In its weakened expression, the mind can end up serving self-interest, and intuition clings stubbornly to its own.
Line 5: Betrayal
This line is about the breaking of trust. In its exalted expression, it involves an intuitive sense of the tensions between opposing camps: the divisions can be stoked without you taking a side yourself. In its weakened expression, the sense of when an alliance has run its course can tempt you to leave trusted allies for stronger ones.
Line 6: A Glorious Exit
This line holds the idea that it is better to risk everything than to accept decay. In its exalted expression, a deep, intuitive will to win drives renewal forward, whatever it costs. In its weakened expression, an intuitive fear of defeat governs the struggle, and in hard times confidence can fade.

Incarnation Crosses with the Sun in Gate 28
Right Angle Cross of the Unexpected
With this cross, the unexpected shows up in four forms: as a sudden new experience, as a surprising rise into a position of influence, as a responsibility you have to take on, and as the result of fundamental daring. Gate 28 makes a survival force that would otherwise be entirely self-focused into something more caring: you look after others, even when you would rather not.
For you, with the Sun in Gate 28, what matters most is that life seems to have value. When that value is missing, life turns into a struggle. Fulfillment is sought at Gate 38, the Fighter: what you are looking for is a struggle that is worth something, and this striving becomes your life theme.
On this cross, the unexpected remains an ongoing theme.
The angle is personal: encounters enrich your own path, but they do not fundamentally pull you away from it. You grow into this theme when you follow your Strategy and Authority. This is not a prediction.
Juxtaposition Cross of Risks
The Juxtaposition Cross of Risks is rare and follows a fixed path of its own. Without ascent or new experience, what remains for this cross is risk itself. People who carry it begin feeling their way toward limits early on, and they love the feeling of having come through.
For you, with the Sun in Gate 28, the risk mainly concerns things tied to your own needs. Gate 19 on the Design Earth puts pressure on you to get hold of the resources you need. The pattern is fixed. There is a pull toward gambling and toward risks that are often taken blindly, such as a bet on quick gain that promises significance.
This angle sits between the personal and the transpersonal and builds a bridge between them. It is like a train running on fixed rails, and people who stay with you for a longer time can ride along on your track. You grow into this theme when you follow your Strategy and Authority. It is not a prediction of events.
Left Angle Cross of Alignment
This Left Angle Cross finds its alignment as soon as the unexpected happens, and it makes use of the wave. It is linked to the theme of betrayal, understood here as the ability to leave the old behind, even something you once valued, and set out toward something more meaningful.
With the Sun in Gate 28, here is how it works for you: the unexpected often unsettles the Right Angle. This cross takes hold of it and moves on. Without the unexpected, there is nothing to spark the alignment. When it does arrive, it can come as a real surprise. Some people use situations like these to their own advantage, and those around them may experience that as betrayal.
Line 6 goes all the way to the edge to sense whether life in the body is worth it. It is said that some people are here to live on the edge, and for them a risk that suits who they are can feel right.
The angle is transpersonal: your theme matures through contact with others, and they can change your path in ways you notice. You can grow into it by following your Strategy and Authority. It is not a fixed destiny.
