G Center
Your identity and direction stay steady, even when your surroundings change.
In Human Design, a center is either defined or undefined. An undefined center is called open when none of its gates is activated, and undefined with individual gates otherwise.
Defined
In the teaching, the G Center is the center of identity, life direction and love.
In your chart, it is defined. Your identity and direction are steady, and they stay that way as your surroundings change. A defined G Center also stands for drawing others in and giving them something to hold on to, especially people with an undefined or open G Center, to whom it can show a direction. The theme here is encouraging others and offering orientation.
A defined G Center easily becomes an anchor for people who currently have no direction. One reading cautions that this can lead to people gathering around you who simply follow your direction.
For 14 days, notice in everyday situations when you feel sure of your direction, even as your surroundings change. Also note when that was not the case.
Undefined (with individual gates)
Your G Center is undefined, but it has at least one activated gate. Your sense of identity and the direction you experience in life don't have to stay the same; when it comes to decisions, your Strategy and Authority remain what counts. Your self-image and direction shift depending on the people and the place, much like a chameleon. Place plays a special role: in the right place with the right people, you tend to feel more like yourself, and your feel for a place can be a signpost.
The gift is that you don't have to hold on to an identity or a direction. This openness leaves room for empathy and for offering orientation to others, even when your own goal is unclear.
Under pressure, you may look for identity, direction and love outside yourself, cling to one particular version of yourself, or become dependent on people whose G Center is defined. Whose direction you take on depends on whom you listen to.
Notice which places feel right to you, and in the evening, also write down places where you noticed nothing in particular.
Open (no gates)
Your G Center is open. None of its gates are activated in your chart. Your sense of identity and the direction you feel your life taking don't have to stay the same; when it comes to decisions, your Strategy and Authority remain what counts. Your self-image and your direction shift depending on the people and the setting around you. Place carries special weight for you, and your feel for a place can serve as a signpost.
With a completely open G Center, you may find yourself quickly handing decisions over to others. Whose direction you take on depends on whom you listen to. People who encourage you can set you on a good path, while people who discourage you are more likely to lead you down the wrong one.
In the teaching, this openness leaves room for empathy and for guiding others, even without knowing your own destination. In the Not-Self, you look for identity, direction and love outside yourself and can easily lose yourself in other people.
Notice which places make your direction feel clearer than others do. Also note when the place made no difference.
