Solar Plexus Center

Your feelings come in waves, and for you, clarity only arrives over time.

In Human Design, a center is either defined or undefined. An undefined center is called open when none of its gates is activated, and undefined with individual gates otherwise.

Defined

In Human Design, the Solar Plexus is the center of feelings. It is both a motor and an awareness center, which is why it is considered the most complex one.

In your chart, it is defined. Your feelings come in waves, and clarity comes with time rather than in the moment itself. How you make decisions with this is covered in the section on Strategy and Authority.

A defined Solar Plexus radiates its mood. People around you whose Solar Plexus is not defined often feel that mood strongly, sometimes more strongly than you do. It can be a relief for them when you tell them how you're feeling right now.

A 14-day experiment

For 14 days, watch whether small everyday decisions look the same to you in the morning as they do in the evening. Also make a note when your assessment stayed the same.

Undefined (with individual gates)

Your Solar Plexus is undefined but has at least one activated gate. You take in other people's feelings and can amplify them until they feel like your own. On your own, you often feel calmer; around others, their waves can become more noticeable. Other people's feelings sometimes stay with you longer, since you have no wave of your own to wash them away.

The path here is to stop mistaking other people's feelings for your own, to stand like an onlooker on the shore, and to move to a different room when you need to.

Under pressure, you want to be as nice as possible, you sidestep conflict, and you look away where an insight might hurt. The question underneath is whether what gets said will upset someone, and whether you will still be liked afterward. What you push down can suddenly break out with real force.

A 14-day experiment

Notice when your mood shifts around other people, and write down whether it was still there after the encounter. Also keep track of encounters where your mood stayed the same.

Open (no gates)

Your Solar Plexus is open. None of its gates is activated in your chart. You have no emotional wave of your own, and you take in other people's feelings until they feel like yours. With a completely open Solar Plexus, there is no familiar filter, so you may feel unsure which feeling fits which moment. Your gift is watching the waves without getting caught up in them.

On your own, you often feel calmer; around others, their waves can become more noticeable. The path here is to keep other people's feelings from becoming your own, to stand like an onlooker on the shore, and to leave the room if you need to.

Under pressure, you want to be as nice as possible and steer clear of conflict. The question underneath is whether what gets said will upset someone, and whether you will still be liked afterward. What you push down can suddenly come out with force.

A 14-day experiment

After encounters that stirred you up, ask yourself whether the feeling was still there once you were alone again. Make a note of it, too, when things turned out differently.
