Throat Center
The way you express yourself is consistent, and how it sounds depends on what your Throat is connected to.
In Human Design, a center is either defined or undefined. An undefined center is called open when none of its gates is activated, and undefined with individual gates otherwise.
Defined
In the teaching, the Throat is the place where your inner life shows itself outwardly through speaking and acting.
In your chart, it is defined. The way you speak and express yourself is consistent. This is also about being heard and making something happen. How your expression sounds, and whether it pushes more toward words or toward action, depends on which centers your Throat is connected to; your connections are listed directly below this text.
Around you, people with an undefined Throat often talk more than they otherwise would. Noticing this and kindly setting limits on it is part of this theme. Here too, Strategy and Authority lead, not the Throat’s urge, and the impact depends on the right timing.
For 14 days, notice in which conversations your way of speaking feels consistent to you and in which it doesn’t, and what was different in those moments. Also note when it didn’t fit this description.
Undefined (with individual gates)
Your Throat is undefined but has at least one activated gate. The way you express yourself shifts depending on who you're with. When someone with a defined Throat is nearby, the words come easily, and the same topic can sound completely different. What you want to say often only becomes clear once you start talking. A conversation where no one is judging helps with that.
Your gift lies in finding the language the other person needs. With patience, this often comes across as especially clear and fitting.
Under pressure, you may talk a lot or jump in to get attention and be part of things, even where no one asked. Underneath this is the question of whether you are heard and seen. When you say something someone asked you about, others often listen more closely; you use your Strategy and Authority to check when to speak up.
Pay attention to the conversations where you speak up without being asked, and notice how it feels when others listen to you then. Write it down when there was no difference, too.
Open (no gates)
Your Throat is open. None of its gates are activated in your chart. You have no fixed way of expressing yourself. How you express yourself changes depending on who you're with. When someone with a defined Throat is around you, the words come easily; with others, it can take longer for the words to come.
The gift lies in finding the language the other person needs. With patience, this comes across especially clearly. Often you only discover what you want to say while you're talking, so a space for conversation where nothing is judged works in your favor.
Under pressure, you may talk a lot or jump in to get attention, even when no one has asked. The question underneath is whether you are heard and seen. When you say something someone has asked for, your words often carry more weight; you use your Strategy and Authority to check when to speak up.
Notice with whom speaking comes easily and with whom it stalls. Also note the conversations where that wasn't the case.
